No Borders at Nottingham MAYDAY 2010

Meet No Borders activists and find literature on our stall at the annual Mayday celebrations in Nottingham on 1st May 2010, this year moved to Victoria Park, Bath Street – near the Victoria Leisure Centre (which the City Council has just closed) and near Sneinton Market. Assemble at 11 am. There will be a march leaving Victoria Park at 12 for Speaker’s Corner (Clough statue), returning to Victoria Park for music, stalls, speakers and more. No Borders calls for noise demo against ‘Policing The Borders Conference’ 23rd March 2010

London No Borders have called for a noise demo outside the “Policing the Borders” conference at the Cavendish Conference Centre, 22 Duchess Mews, London W1G 9DT (nearest tube: Oxford Circus) on Tuesday 23rd March at 2.30pm.

This Tuesday representatives of the European Border Agency FRONTEX,
various UK police forces and the Identity and Passport Service are
gathering in central London for a conference under the title “Policing the
Border”.

The conference, which claims to secure the border against “illegal
immigration” and terrorism, will also be attended by representatives of
many security companies and feature an exhibition about border security
and surveillance.

Together these companies and agencies create a Fortress Europe where every
year thousands of people in the desert, in the Mediterranean Sea and in
the Atlantic Ocean die try to enter. Furthermore their policies and
actions deny basic rights to millions of “undocumented migrants” within
Europe, and help to create
an atmosphere of suspicion where everyone is under surveillance for
unnamed “crimes”.

London No Borders is fundamentally opposed to a world in which people are
denied their freedom of movement because of the colour of their skin,
their bank balance, or their nationality.

SUCCESSFUL Immigration bail hearings for Hich and Amdani on 16th June 2008 – but campaigning continues

By coincidence the bail hearings of two high-profile Nottingham detainees both took place today via video links from Dover citadel (for Hicham Yezza) and Campsfield in Oxfordshire (for Amdani Juma). These hearings were to allow them to be released from detention while they fight their respective immigration cases. Latest news – after 31 days inside and one deportation flight cancelled, Hich is bailed! (although Home Office tried to make out he should be kept locked up because he has no ‘absence of close ties’ to the UK – clearly nonsense). Amdani’s hearing finished a couple of hours later and he is also bailed (in spite of HO opposition) after 18 days and two cancelled deportation flights. Hoorah!!
