FRIDAY 21 SEPTEMBER- LUNAR HOUSE REPORTING CENTRE & IMMIGRATION HQ, CROYDON

The No Borders network is organising an event outside Lunar House in Croydon on Fri 21 Sept, as part of the first UK No Border Camp, building resistance to the new detention centre planned for Gatwick. Whoever arrives at East Croydon train station will recognize Lunar House, a massive twenty-storey office block on the East side of Wellesley Road.

Please join us in front of Lunar House, Borders and Immigration Agency, 40 Wellesley Road, East Croydon, at 10am-2pm Fri 21 Sep.

We will be gathering in front of Lunar House from 10am and showing our solidarity with migrants who have to report daily, weekly or monthly at the massive reporting centre located here. This is a humiliating and stressful ordeal: asylum seekers may be snatched without warning when going to sign on and then forced into detention, in preparation for deportation. Yet if they don’t report, they face being branded ?illegal?, in criminal breach of immigration offences and cut off from all sources of support.

We will be standing outside distributing free food, playing music, talking to those waiting to go in and generally showing our solidarity with those reporting and often detained in this, the headquarters of the UK’s border regime. We are particularly appealing to those with experience of immigration law to join us, as we are sure those in the queues outside Lunar House would appreciate speaking to you, even if only for a short while. For more details see the No Borders Croydon Demo webpage.

SATURDAY 22 SEPTEMBER – DAY OF ACTION, MARCH FROM CRAWLEY TO GATWICK DETENTION CENTRE

Also join No Borders on the international demonstration and day of action against immigration prisons: Sat 22 Sept, meet up 12 pm at Memorial Gardens, Crawley, and march together to Tinsley House Detention Centre, Gatwick.

Tinsley House, the already existing immigration prison at Gatwick, was the first purpose-built detention centre in the UK. It was opened in 1996 and has a capacity of 135 people, including families and children, with 11,000 detainees going through it each year. Next to Tinsley House the home Office started building a new detention centre, called Brook House. There will be public tranport to/from London: Coaches leaving : 9.30am – University London Union, Malet Street, London WC1. For tickets call: 07983 274 568 or email noborderslondon@riseup.net (£10 solidarity price // asylum seekers go free // no one refused due to lack of funds). More details about Saturday demo are on the No Borders Day of Action webpage.
